Tennyson Avenue, is a duel-extension and refurbishment project to an end of terrace 1930’s house in South West London. The full-width, single-storey extension adds valuable extra space for the clients, who wanted a flexible space that they could adjust for a variety of occasions.
A fixed roof light runs across the width of the extension with exposed timber joists. This optimises the south-facing aspect, filtering the daylight into the deep plan and casting changing shadows throughout the day.
The simple material palette of polished concrete flooring, oak joinery, clay plaster and exposed brick chimney breast responds to the client's expressed interest in natural and robust materials.
Mass Perspective
The rear elevation features brick piers and a horizontal band of anthracite zinc with vertical seams, acting as a continuation of the linear glazing. The contemporary dormer is clad in zinc providing a connection with the ground floor extension. Full-height slim profile glazing maximizes the view to the garden.
